This guide explains how to automatically send Shopify order notifications to WhatsApp using LandinChat’s Webhook Workflow.
Once set up, every new order placed on your Shopify store will trigger a WhatsApp message to the customer with order details—no manual work, no delays.
What You’ll Achieve #
- Instant WhatsApp order confirmation
- Fully automated via webhook
- Zero manual follow-ups
- Works in real time with Shopify
Prerequisites (Don’t Skip This) #
Before starting, you must have:
- Active LandinChat account
- Connected WhatsApp Business API number
- Shopify store with admin access
- Approved WhatsApp message template
- Customer phone numbers collected at checkout
If any of these are missing, this setup will fail.
Step 1: Create a WhatsApp Order Notification Template #
- Log in to LandinChat
- Go to Bot Manager → Message Templates
- Create a new template (Utility category recommended)
- Use exactly these variables:
{{1}}→ Product List{{2}}→ Total Price{{3}}→ Estimated Delivery Date
- Save and submit the template for approval
⚠️ Important:
Do not add promotional content. Order notifications must stay transactional.
Step 2: Create a Webhook Workflow in LandinChat #
- Go to Webhook Workflow
- Click Create Workflow
- Enter a clear name
Example:Shopify_Order_Confirmation - Select:
- WhatsApp account
- The approved message template
- Click Create Workflow
LandinChat will generate a Webhook URL.
👉 Copy this URL. You’ll need it in Shopify.
Step 3: Connect the Webhook to Shopify #
- Log in to Shopify Admin
- Go to Settings → Notifications
- Scroll to Webhooks
- Click Create Webhook
Fill the form:
- Event: Order creation
- Format: JSON
- URL: Paste the Webhook URL from LandinChat
Click Save.
At this point, Shopify knows where to send order data.
Step 4: Capture & Map Shopify Webhook Data #
- Go back to LandinChat → Webhook Workflow
- Click Capture Webhook Response
- In Shopify, click Send Test Notification
- Wait for data to appear inside LandinChat
Now map fields correctly:
- Phone Number →
shipping_address.phone - Total Price →
total_price - Product List →
line_items - Estimated Delivery Date →
created_at
Click Save Workflow.
If mapping is wrong, messages will not send.
Step 5: Test the Entire Flow #
- Place a test order on Shopify
- Go to LandinChat Reports
- Order status will move:
Pending→Completed
- Check the customer’s WhatsApp
If everything is correct, the order notification will arrive instantly.
Common Mistakes to Avoid #
- Using marketing templates for order updates
- Incorrect phone number mapping
- Template variables not matching webhook data
- WhatsApp number not connected
- Webhook workflow not saved or active
Most failures come from bad mapping, not Shopify.
