(For LandinChat– WhatsApp Business API)
A keyword-based WhatsApp chatbot automatically replies when a user sends a specific word or phrase (like Hi, Start, or Help). This is the simplest and most reliable way to trigger automation on WhatsApp.
In LandinChat, keyword bots are built using the Visual Bot Builder, allowing you to design conversations with messages, buttons, and flows—without writing code.
Step 1: Access the Bot Manager #
- Log in to your LandinChat Dashboard
- Go to Bot Manager
- Select the WhatsApp account you want to configure
- Click Bot Reply
This opens the bot automation section.
Step 2: Create a New Chatbot #
- Click Create under Bot Reply
- The Visual Flow Bot Builder canvas will load
This canvas is where you design the chatbot logic.
Step 3: Name Your Chatbot #
- Locate the Start Bot Flow block
- Double-click it to open Configure Reference
Set the following:
- Title: Internal name for your chatbot (e.g., Welcome Bot)
- (Optional) Label or Sequence if needed
This is for internal organization only.
Step 4: Set a Keyword Trigger #
Inside the Configure Reference modal:
- Enter a keyword (e.g.,
hello,hi,start) - Choose the trigger type:
Exact Keyword Match
- Bot triggers only if the message exactly matches the keyword
String Match (Recommended)
- Bot triggers if the keyword appears anywhere
Example:
Keyword =hello
User message = “Hello, I need help” → Bot triggers
- Click Save
This keyword now activates the chatbot.
Step 5: Configure the Response Message #
- Drag a connector from the Next socket of Start Bot Flow
- Drop it on the canvas
- Select Interactive Component
Configure:
- Message Header (optional)
- Message Body (mandatory)
- Message Footer (optional)
- Delay (optional, for natural responses)
Click OK to save.
Step 6: Add Interactive Buttons (Optional but Powerful) #
- Drag a connector from the Button Socket of the Interactive Component
- Select Inline Button Component
- Double-click it and set:
- Button Text (short & clear)
- Button Action, such as:
- Send Message
- Start Another Flow
- Assign Label
- System Default Action
- Click Save
Repeat to add up to 3 buttons per message.
Step 7: Configure Final Message & Save the Bot #
- Add a Text Component for the final message (if needed)
- Configure the message and click OK
- Click Save (top-right corner)
⚠️ If you don’t click Save, everything is lost.
Step 8: Test Your WhatsApp Chatbot #
- Open WhatsApp
- Send the keyword you configured
- Verify:
- Bot reply is triggered
- Buttons work correctly
- Flow progresses as expected
If it doesn’t trigger, the issue is almost always the keyword match type.
Step 9: Tips & Troubleshooting #
- Bot not triggering?
→ Check keyword spelling and match type - Buttons not showing?
→ Ensure they’re connected to an Interactive Component - Flow ends abruptly?
→ Add a final Text Component - Changes not reflecting?
→ You forgot to click Save
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) #
1. Can I use multiple keywords for one chatbot? #
Yes. Add multiple keywords separated by commas or create multiple start flows.
2. Which trigger type should I use? #
Use String Match in most cases. Exact match is too restrictive for real users.
3. Can I trigger bots without keywords? #
Yes, via:
- Button clicks
- Sequences
- User input flows
But keywords are the simplest entry point.
4. How many buttons can I add? #
Maximum 3 buttons per interactive message, per WhatsApp rules.
5. Can I connect this bot to a follow-up sequence? #
Yes. Use Enroll in Sequence as a button action.
6. Will this work outside the 24-hour window? #
Only if the message is a WhatsApp-approved template.
7. Can I reuse the same bot for multiple campaigns? #
Yes, but it’s smarter to clone and customize to avoid logic conflicts.
8. Is this suitable for beginners? #
Yes. This is the entry-level automation every LandinChat user should start with.
9. What’s the most common mistake? #
Using Exact Match and assuming users will type perfectly. They won’t.
10. Can I edit the bot later? #
Yes. Changes apply instantly after saving.
